Lightning Protection Drawing Layout
A lightning protection drawing layout is a plan that shows how to install a lightning protection system (LPS) on a structure. A LPS is a set of equipment and devices that capture and conduct the lightning current safely to the ground, preventing damage to the structure and its contents. A LPS consists of four main components:
- Capture system: This is the device that picks up the lightning strike, such as a lightning rod, an air terminal, or a mesh.
- Down conductors: These are the wires or cables that connect the capture system to the grounding system, carrying the lightning current down to the earth.
- Grounding system: This is the device that dissipates the lightning current into the soil, such as a ground rod, a ground plate, or a ground ring.
- Surge protection: These are the devices that protect the electrical and electronic equipment connected to the power or communication lines from voltage surges caused by lightning.
