A cable routing diagram is a type of electrical drawing that shows the location of the electrical cabinets, cable types and routes, and the position of every electrical equipment and device in the building, It helps to plan and install the cable system in a safe and efficient way. It also avoids interference with other structures and systems in the building.
Some steps to create a cable routing diagram are:
- Make a detailed plan ahead of time. Focus on your electrical strategy after you’ve finished with your layout. Before being plastered, laid out, and fixed, the wirings pass through the ceilings, walls, and floor.
- Verify the reference drawing numbers and titles. Make sure you have the latest piping plot plan drawing, single line diagrams, connection diagrams, and cable schedules to cross-check the cable information.
- Use suitable symbols and lines. Use standard symbols and lines to represent the electrical cabinets, cables, equipment, and devices. Indicate the cable types, sizes, ratings, and capacities as well.
- Consider special requirements and conditions. Incorporate client’s requirements such as direct burial, concrete duct bank, above ground cable tray system, etc. Make special consideration for cable route where enhancement is required, such as at road crossing, area paved by concrete or asphalt.
- Show the details of man-holes and cable route markers. Provide the appropriate number of man-holes at suitable locations considering the maximum allowable side wall tension and pulling tension of the cable for the duct bank system. Show the detail of man-holes considering the required working space of cable installation, splicing and termination. Show the location of cable route markers.
